La Jornada: Match between Mexico and Ecuador broke TV audience record

The match between the Mexican soccer team against Ecuador reached a record audience of approximately 60 million viewers through their televisions, not counting those who enjoyed it in public squares, data from Televisa Univisión revealed.

The most important soccer event on the planet – which entered the round of 16 stage on Tuesday night for Mexico – reached 59.6 million viewers who tuned in to Mexico’s match against the Ecuadorian representative, in which, thanks to the goals of Julián Quiñones and Raúl Jiménez, the tricolor team has reached the next stage in which on Sunday it will face England, also at the Azteca stadium.

According to data from Televisa Univisión, the 2026 World Cup registered a record audience, as 35.3 million people watched the match on the television station’s signal during Tuesday’s match between Mexico and Ecuador. The above, the company assured, surpassed its competition by 17 percent (Tv Azteca, for example).

The company detailed that 28.4 million viewers followed the game on open television, while some 6.9 million watched it on the Vix platform.

“Around 35.3 million hearts vibrated and celebrated Mexico’s triumph through Televisa Univisión, which makes it a new record on Mexican television,” the company highlighted on its social networks.
