Egypt again invited Hamas to transfer weapons to Cairo for safekeeping

During negotiations with the Hamas delegation in Cairo, the Egyptian authorities are trying to convince the terrorist leadership to show greater flexibility on the issue of disarmament and transfer weapons to Cairo for safekeeping. The Kan news service reported this on Thursday evening.

An unnamed source in the Egyptian leadership told Kan that Cairo is again pushing forward with a compromise initiative first proposed last year: Hamas should transfer its weapons to Egypt for safekeeping rather than destroy them.

According to the source, Egypt is trying to put pressure on Hamas to agree to this option and thereby open the way to the implementation of the second stage of US President Donald Trump’s plan to end the war in the Gaza Strip.

However, as the Egyptian source noted, Hamas does not demonstrate a willingness to compromise and, in his words, is “only playing for time.”
