Pedro Martínez leaves Valencia Basket after executing his exit clause

Valencia Basket announced this Friday that Pedro Martínez has stopped being the coach of its first men’s team after the exit clause included in his contract was paid, putting an end to a second stage in which the Catalan coach once again made history at the head of the ‘taronja’ team.

“After paying the exit clause included in his contract that allowed him to unilaterally break his relationship with Valencia Basket, Pedro Martínez is separated from the Club and will no longer serve as head coach of our first men’s team. On March 25, 2026, the Catalan coach had extended his contract with Valencia Basket until the end of the 2027-28 season,” the club announced in a statement.

The coach’s departure comes just three months after having renewed his contract until the end of the 2027-28 season and in a context in which everything indicates that he will begin a new stage on another bench in the Endesa League, that of Real Madrid.

In an interview given to the newspaper Las Provincias and collected by Europa Press, Martínez himself explained the reasons for his decision. “I liked the approach they gave me on Friday the 26th, it was an approach of maximum ambition. There is one thing that I like and that is to test myself, to test myself in a team that has the maximum ambition,” he said, speaking of the white club.

The Catalan coach closes his second stage at Valencia Basket after two seasons in which he won the 2025 Endesa Super Cup and the 2025-26 Endesa League, completing a record that he had already inaugurated in his first stage with the historic 2017 league title, the first of the ‘taronja’.

Pedro Martínez leaves the Roig Arena as the first coach to have won league titles, and multiple titles, with the first team. In addition, he leaves Valencia Basket as the coach with the most games coached in the history of the entity, with 282 games, and also as the most successful in terms of victories, with 207. He also leads the club’s historical records in Endesa League games (168) and in European competitions (105).

Valencia Basket thanked the coach for “the professionalism, dedication and work” carried out during this second stage at the head of the team and wished him the best for the future.
