Already next week: Europe is preparing for another heavy heat wave

The heat wave hitting Europe does not leave the continent. After the extreme weather that prevailed in several countries last week and resulted in the death of hundreds of people, Europe is entering another heavy heat wave. According to reports in the UK, “red” heat warnings have already been issued in Italy, Croatia and again in Western Europe, where the heat has weakened slightly, but is expected to strengthen again as early as next week.

The warnings in Italy have been published so far in 25 cities from Bolzano in the north to Palermo in the south. In Croatia, apart from the capital Zagreb, warnings were also issued in Dubrovnik and Split, after last Monday dozens of firefighters and four firefighting planes battled a fire that broke out on the tourist island of Vis, about 55 km southwest of Split.

The heavy heat is also expected to affect neighboring Serbia, where temperatures are expected to reach 39 degrees. Hot days of extreme weather with high temperatures are also expected in the Canary Islands, when in Gran Canaria for example, temperatures are expected to reach even 40 degrees.

The heat wave in Europe started in the middle of June and broke every possible record. French Prime Minister Sébastien LeCorny said the country’s health emergency program (ORSAN) would remain on the highest alert, in preparation for the “possibility of the heat wave returning”. France experienced its hottest day on record, with authorities saying around 1,000 people died due to the intense heat.
