After years: one of the most beautiful springs in Israel has reopened

The Nature and Parks Authority announced that after a long period of being closed, the Nahal Perat – Ein Maboa nature reserve was opened to the general public today (Wednesday).

With the beginning of the Iron Swords War, all the PA websites were closed at the direction of the Home Front Command. While the Nahal Perat – Ein Maboa Nature Reserve was closed, the Authority promoted the development of the site together with Israel Routes. With the easing of the guidelines, the development works began, a parking lot was built in the complex with about 60 parking spaces, as well as a safe passageway for pedestrians between the parking lot and the entrance to the site. In addition, the public welfare building was renovated. Now at the end of the work, the website has been reopened.

According to RTG, the site will be opened free of charge and during normal business hours (08:00-17:00), entry to the site is by pre-registration only through the Nature and Parks Authority website.

Ein Maboa is a pulsating spring in the heart of the rocky gorge of Nahal Perat (Wadi Kelt). This is the middle of a series of three large springs that flow between Ein Perat upstream and Ein Kelt downstream. Its waters emerge in pulses and between pulses the spring is dry. A pulsating spring is a karstic spring that does not flow at a constant rate, but erupts in intermittent bursts, similar to heartbeats.

This discontinuous flow is caused by the storage of groundwater in karstic cavities in the rock and its emptying at once when it reaches a maximum filling threshold. It is estimated that there are only about a hundred such springs in the whole world. Ein Maboa pulsates mainly in the summer. In winter, the amount of precipitation regularly fills the inner space, the water level in the space is higher than the spring level, and in this situation the flow is continuous. As the rainy season recedes, although the outflow of water from the space to the spring is regular, it is not renewed by rainwater, therefore with the arrival of summer (at the beginning, middle or end, depending on the amount of precipitation) the balance between the water level in the space and the spring level is disturbed, and the visual manifestation of this is the pulsation phenomenon.
