France’s first Ebola patient has recovered and been discharged from hospital

French Health Minister Stephanie Rist said that the first patient in the country’s history with a confirmed diagnosis of Ebola fever has fully recovered and has been discharged from the hospital. According to France24, the patient was a humanitarian mission doctor who arrived in France on June 23 from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is there that a large-scale outbreak of a deadly virus continues. After returning, an examination confirmed that the doctor was infected with Ebola.

According to Stephanie Rist, after receiving two negative PCR test results, the patient was declared recovered and allowed to return home. The doctor flew to France on an Air France flight. The disease was mild: apart from the headache, he had virtually no other symptoms. As a precautionary measure, five passengers on the same flight were identified as potential contacts and placed under observation.

The minister emphasized that the patient was under constant medical supervision from the very beginning, and treatment and observation were carried out in strict accordance with current sanitary protocols.

The Ebola virus causes severe hemorrhagic fever, which is often fatal. Although the disease is not considered highly contagious, the current outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo continues to expand.
