The university opens space for students and businesses to research and develop together

This space is part of the State-school-enterprise cooperation ecosystem, announced by the University of Information and Communications Technology (ICTU), Thai Nguyen University, on the afternoon of July 4.

According to the school representative, instead of just meeting at the signing ceremony, internship or recruitment session, business representatives can work regularly right at the school. They will be given a place to research and develop products, and participate in training, technology transfer and work with lecturers and students.

About 80% of the area of ​​the Business Collaboration Space at ICTU has been registered for use. Samsung Vietnam, Viettel Software, VinFast, Foxconn… and many domestic and foreign businesses will participate in the model.

According to Associate Professor. Dr. Phung Trung Nghia, Rector of ICTU, Thai Nguyen is “transforming” to become a destination for many large corporations and businesses, but opportunities should not “just stop at the numbers of attracting investment”. What the school is concerned about is how to “create great opportunities for students right in their homeland, for them to study, research, innovate and start businesses”.

“We decided not to wait,” he said. “If it is difficult for students to get close to businesses, bring businesses closer to students.” Therefore, the school has sought to incorporate practical problems into classes, laboratories and research projects. Students can thus have earlier exposure to the working environment, new technology and career requirements, instead of waiting until internships or when looking for a job.

According to him, what ICTU wants is a new way of doing things: universities don’t just impart knowledge, businesses don’t just appear to recruit, and students don’t “study to wait for graduation.” Instead, “businesses bring practical problems, schools bring knowledge, students bring youth, aspirations, and creativity. State management agencies participate in orienting and connecting policies and resources.”

At the event, Mr. Nguyen Huy Dung, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, proposed that ICTU needs to go one step further with the “three houses plus one” model.

“‘Plus one’ here is adding an international element,” he said. In training and research activities, schools need to look outside, see what countries are doing, where they are doing it well, and choose international strategic partners in each field.

He said that basic science, science technology and applied science in the country still need many efforts to keep up with the general level of the times. Therefore, international cooperation is an important factor in this process. “In every story, every mission we do has an international element,” Mr. Dung emphasized.
