The new Chinese sedan broke the record! Almost 65 thousand orders arrived in just 30 hours

The Chinese automobile giant BYD has shaken up the market again, this time with the launch of its new admiral sedan, the Seal 08 model. Unveiled on July 2, 2026, this 5.15-meter-long car not only redefines expectations in the premium segment, but also it does so with a starting price of only 196,900 yuan, or about 27,000 euros. The reaction of the market was immediate and astonishing: in just thirty hours after the official start of sales, the company received approximately 65,000 confirmed orders, signaling that a new market phenomenon had been created. This impressive number includes 40,000 “blind” reservations that customers made since June 12, without knowing the final price, and an additional 25,000 orders that arrived immediately after the announcement. Analysts, such as Andy Ding of Xueqiu who follows BYD, note that these figures have a possible margin of error of ten to fifteen percent, but even with that fence, the scale of interest is unquestionable. Č It seems that BYD has managed to hit the formula that combines premium technology, performance and materials with a price that until recently was reserved for much more modestly equipped cars.

Seal 08 is not just another sedan in an already overcrowded range. It is based on an advanced 800-volt architecture that enables lightning fast charging and comes equipped with specialized DiSus-A air suspension.

Set on a wheelbase of 3,030 mm, the car offers exceptional spaciousness, and despite that, with its dimensions, it is more agile than many smaller vehicles. Thanks to the steering system on all four wheels, the turning radius is only 4.9 meters, which is significantly better than, for example, the Tesla Model 3 (5.6 meters), which is 43 centimeters shorter.

Customers are offered two drive options, but more than 65 percent of them chose the all-electric version. The star of the offer is the model with all-wheel drive, which, with the help of two electric motors, delivers a combined power of 510 kW (694 hp). This enables it to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds, with an estimated range of 905 kilometers according to the CLTC cycle. It is this version that is most in demand, which creates the longest waiting lists due to the limited availability of specialized components.

For those who are not yet ready to switch completely to electricity, there is also a plug-in hybrid version. It offers up to 400 kilometers of range on electric drive alone, while its combined range with a gasoline engine reaches 1,660 kilometers.

Luxury

The interior of the Seal 08 reveals why this car attracts so much attention. Almost every surface is covered with soft materials with a premium feel, and details such as a decorative strip of mother-of-pearl, a material often seen on the dials of expensive Rolex watches, give the cabin a touch of exclusivity. Double-layer acoustic glass ensures exceptional silence, while the Devialet audio system with twenty speakers takes care of the soundscape. The front “zero-gravity” seats offer heating, cooling and massage functions, and the same comfort is available for rear passengers. The rear seats, the largest in the class, also recline and have pull-out footrests, all controlled via a separate touch screen. Equipment such as a refrigerator for drinks and folding tables for laptops additionally emphasize the luxurious character of the vehicle. Standard equipment includes i [BYD-ov napredni sustav za pomoć u vožnji “God’s Eye B”](https://carnewschina.com/2026/07/04/byd-seal-08-flagship-sedan-sales-production/) with a LiDAR sensor, at čem productionđač covers all damage or liability incurred during the use of autonomous driving in the city or when parking independently.

However, the picture is not entirely rosy. Huge demand created pressure on production capacities. The factory can currently produce around 8,000 vehicles per month, which is far from enough to meet tens of thousands of orders. In order to alleviate the problem, BYD introduced double shifts in production, but deliveries for the most popular models increased. now two to three months late. The key challenge remains accelerating the production of the second generation of Blade batteries, which are the heart of this model. The success of the Seal 08 comes as BYD’s sales show signs of recovery after a challenging transition period to a new generation of batteries. For example, data for May 2026 show that the best-selling models of the brand were Sealion 06 (18,856 units) and Yuan UP (17,043 units).
