Palestinian ambassador to Spain sees the dissolution of the governing body in Gaza as an “insignificant formality”

The Palestinian ambassador to Spain, Husni Abdel Wahed, pointed out this Thursday as an “insignificant formality” the dissolution by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) of the authorities that govern the Gaza Strip, while emphasizing that they no longer fulfilled any function and has cast doubt on whether Donald Trump’s plan goes to the next steps.

“I think that the Hamas declaration is an insignificant formality; it has had absolutely no function for a long time,” he said at an event in Madrid with the Minister of Culture, Ernest Urtasun.

In this sense, he has referred to the step as “a mere formal announcement that will not have any unexpected consequences”, given the lack of influence of this body.

Likewise, it has questioned the viability of the reconstruction project for the Strip proposed by Trump and the creation of the Peace Board council with international figures such as the American president himself, the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, or the former British prime minister, Tony Blair.

Thus, he has doubted that this technocratic government can be launched, since 10 months after the design of the plan, “as of today”, they have not entered the Strip despite being the politicians appointed by Washington.

“The reconstruction project of the Gaza Strip is summarized in what Trump had announced about the Middle East Riviera,” he indicated, adding that his idea involves “building 160 towers on the coast of Gaza with hotels and offices.” “Just a commercial project for them and the Palestinian people benefit from nothing at all,” he said.

The authorities of the Gaza Strip, controlled by Hamas, announced their dissolution as part of preparations for the transfer of powers to the technocratic committee agreed upon in line with the United States proposal for the future of the Palestinian enclave.

The press office of the Gazan authorities reported practical steps to dissolve and signaled their willingness to hand over the reins of governance to the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (CNAG).
