A protest by HIFK supporters before the Jokerit derby

Jokers and HIFK’s first local match of the season has aroused emotions well before the match day.

HIFK’s supporter groups Stadin Kingit, Inferno, HIFK Fan Club and Folket 1897 announce on Instagram that they will not participate in the derby to be played on October 8 at Jokerire’s home hall.

The groups also urge other HIFK supporters to skip away derbies.

According to the supporters, the reason for the boycott is the too small ticket quota for away fans. According to them, initially only 200 tickets have been reserved for HIFK supporters, and the quota can be increased to a maximum of 350 tickets.

The Veikkaus arena can accommodate more than 13,000 spectators during home matches in clown shirts.

Supporters also criticize the price of tickets. Supporter groups think that the ticket price of 75 euros set by the Jokers also for guest spectators is too much.

In addition, the publication compares the situation with another group of supporters, who, according to the supporters, have been offered a significantly larger quota of 1,100 tickets.

“Narrit is about to turn the Stad derby into a money-making machine. Vomiting,” the HIFK supporters’ press release states.

The timing of the supporters’ exit in the middle of July is explained by the fact that advance ticket sales for the match start on Friday.

Although the supporters of HIFK do not plan to go to the away stand of the match, they are planning a protest march before the match.

The first meeting between HIFK and the Jokers at HIFK’s home base, the ice rink in Helsinki, is scheduled for November 11.

The last time the teams met was in March 2014. After that, Jokerit moved to the KHL, where the club played for eight seasons before returning to Finnish league hockey.
