Football World Cup: Traffic jam holds up Schweinsteiger: ARD expert arrives late

Bastian Schweinsteiger missed the start of the ARD broadcast of the World Cup quarter-final between France and Morocco. The former national player and TV expert was stuck in a traffic jam on the way to the stadium in Foxborough, a suburb of Boston, as he explained in a video. “I’m sorry, I’m stuck in a full-full-full traffic jam. I’ve never experienced anything like that in my life,” said Schweinsteiger.

Another clip showed him jogging past the traffic jam to get into the stadium. Philipp Sohmer initially stepped in for him alongside presenter Esther Sedlaczek. Less than ten minutes into the broadcast, Schweinsteiger finally arrived, sweating and with a hand fan in his hand, and replaced Sohmer. “The readiness for a quarter-final was definitely there,” joked Schweinsteiger.
