Samsung works on GAIA, its new processor to accelerate AI capabilities in computers

Samsung is working on the development of a new artificial intelligence (AI) processor for computers called GAIAdesigned with a 4-nanometer manufacturing process and focused on accelerating generative AI functions in these devices.

The Korean company is already a manufacturer of AI chips with its Exynos series smartphone processors. However, it now intends to introduce its technological capabilities also in the PC processor market with AI.

In this sense, it is developing a new AI processor referred to as GAIA and it is optimized for drives neural processing (NPU), in order to efficiently accelerate computer tasks powered by AI on the device itself.

This has been made known by industry sources and has been picked up by Korean media such as The Chosun, who have detailed that Samsung is already supplying a prototype of these processors to companies manufacturing PCs with AI, such as Lenovo in China and HP in the United Statesfacing test your performance before moving towards general release.

Specifically, this chip will be manufactured with a 4 nanometer process and will differ from GPU-equipped chips, which are typically used for AI training and inference. In your case, it will be focused on the NPU and accelerating the computer’s AI capabilities.

However, it is expected that it will enter the phase of production next yearalthough the technology company has not shared information about it.
