In Loire-Atlantique, the Dub Camp festival canceled due to the heatwave

While the government has activated an unprecedented orsec plan, the 11e edition of the Joué-sur-Erdre demonstration was canceled by the prefecture. In financial difficulty, the festival fears for its survival.

The heatwave continues to wreak havoc on festivals. In a press release released Thursday July 10, the Dub Camp festival team announced the cancellation of the event, which was to be held from July 10 to 12 in Joué-sur-Erdre, due to the high temperatures expected this weekend.

The team tried everything to maintain the event but had to face the facts. “It is with a heavy heart that we announce to you that the 11e edition of Dub Camp is canceled due to the exceptional heatwave affecting the country. Consequently, we will not be able to welcome you and we ask you not to come to the festival site. » For several weeks, the Get Up! association, organizer of the event, has worked hard to create a system against the heatwave.

With the help of the authorities, they had set up water points, misters, a 600 square meter cool zone, and additional shaded areas. The schedules also had to be adapted. These efforts met the prefectural specifications in the event of orange vigilance. But the department has just gone red, dashing their hopes. “It is a departmental decision over which we have no power, whatever the system we could put in place. » The prefecture highlights the strong mobilization of emergency services, already strained by multiple outbreaks of vegetation fires, as well as the tension on health establishments. The white plan has already been triggered in several hospital centers.

For the festival, the cancellation of this edition would imply a loss estimated at at least 400,000 euros. “A colossal challenge for the association”which was already facing significant financial difficulties due to rising prices in recent months. The festival indicated that it would reimburse the tickets, but that it needed time to finalize the organization. Several options are being examined to offer the possibility, to those who wish, to contribute to maintaining the event next year.
