The Canadian parody Back to the Future became a surprise hit

An inside joke despite such a setting, the Canadian comedian-director by Matt Johnson from the movie Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie is quickly becoming a cult film with at least a passionate fanbase.

Johnson has previously made a relatively successful film BlackBerry (2023) about a forgotten former hit product, the BlackBerry phone, so unlikely hits seem to follow him.

Nirvanna the band the show the movie got a lot of attention for its official UK premiere on Friday and of the praisers evaluating accompanied. In the past, the film has successfully toured festivals and in May was released theatrically in Europe, at least in Sweden and Norway.

There have also been Swedish assessments as a rule praiseworthy.

Teos tells the story of Matt (Johnson) and Jay (Jay McCarrol) about trying to get a gig at Toronto’s famous Rivoli club. The two play versions of themselves as members of a fictional band called Nirvanna.

The same company has previously been involved in the duo’s television productions, but in the film, more robust weapons are used.

Rivoli is still not asked, but the two head to a hardware store in hidden camera spirit to find ropes so they can jump from the roof of Toronto’s famous CN Tower. A publicity stunt would bring the non-band Takuu a much-needed gig.

The salesman, who apparently doesn’t know he’s on the set of a movie, says he’s a libertarian and supports Matt and Jay’s right to jump off the tower. Yet he advises them not to.

The jump takes place and sows chaos in Toronto, but the gig is still not held. In the next plan, the duo install a time machine in their RV and claim to have traveled to the place since 2008.

Then lightning strikes the car, and the duo actually end up in 2008.

Johnson tells The Guardian that Back to the future -the plot line accompanying the film is a script that raises the stakes of the film: “Who cares if these guys don’t play at the Rivoli? But if we absorb Back to the future-film’s finished stakes, for some reason the reaction is like this: of course it’s important!”

There is also in the movie Jacket assist reminiscent of life-threatening stunts, Boratin awkward hidden camera comedy and Richard Linklater Boyhood reminiscent of real time jumping.

With some slyness, the two manage to communicate with versions of themselves from 18 years ago. The obviously inventive editing of the film and the digital effects implemented on a small budget have received widespread praise anyway.

The movie can be found in the cast list Marko Rantala – an actor who, like others, plays himself. According to IMDB, he has some small roles in previous and ongoing TV series and movies. Nirvanna the Band The Show The Movie is still waiting for its Finnish premiere, but it would be a miracle if it doesn’t come true in some form.
