According to Trump, the Strait of Hormuz is open to commercial ships

The US Central Command announced that the Strait of Hormuz was passable. The military establishment informed that the American forces are “ready and positioned” to ensure the freedom of navigation.

Earlier, the United States and Iran announced mutual strikes. According to the American side, the Iranian armed forces targeted a cargo ship sailing under the flag of Cyprus.

After the incident, Tehran announced that it was closing the Strait of Hormuz, a key for global supplies, explaining that it closed the waterway after a warning shot was fired at the Cypriot cargo ship, as the ship was traveling on an unapproved route.

Tehran has not yet responded to the US president’s claim.

According to the memorandum of understanding that ended the US-Iran war, commercial ships must pass through the strait for free for 60 days, but it is not yet known what will happen after the 60-day period expires. Tehran claims that it has the right to collect fees from ships using the strait for services rendered, while Washington counters that Tehran cannot do this.
