The Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Defense are arguing about financing the reform of assistance to the disabled in the IDF

The Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Defense cannot agree on from what source the reform of assistance to the IDF disabled, based on the recommendations of the Mor Yosef Commission, will be financed, writes Calcalist.

The cost of implementing the reform is estimated at about NIS 2.5 billion in the first year and about NIS 2 billion annually thereafter. The Ministry of Finance insists that the costs must be covered from the budget of the Ministry of Defense, while the Ministry of Defense demands that separate funding be allocated for these purposes.

The dispute has escalated amid a sharp rise in the number of people receiving help from the Defense Department’s rehabilitation department. After the start of the war, their number increased from 62 thousand to 89 thousand.

About 17 thousand new patients suffer from psychological trauma or post-traumatic stress disorder. The reform should expand the scope of assistance and simplify access to services for wounded IDF soldiers and others identified as disabled.
