At the age of 78: “Jurassic Park” star Sam Neill dies in Australia

The New Zealand actor Sam Neill, known from the hit film “Jurassic Park”, is dead. Neill died on Monday at the age of 78 with his family in Australia, his relatives said. Accordingly, his death was “sudden and unexpected”. The family’s statement also said that the star was “cancer-free.”

Neill made his leukemia public in 2023. In his autobiography, “Did I Ever Tell You This,” he wrote that he has been being treated for non-Hodgkin lymphoma since March 2022 and may die from it.

In an interview with the Guardian at the time, Neill said that despite treatment success, he would undergo chemotherapy for the rest of his life. “I can’t pretend that the last year hasn’t had its dark moments,” Neill said in the interview. He is “grateful for every day and immeasurably grateful for all my friends.”

Neill’s long-running acting career began in the 1970s and brought him dozens of roles in film and television, including the series Peaky Blinders and the films The Hunt for Red October and The Piano. In 2022 he again played the role of paleontologist Dr. in “Jurassic World: A New Age”. Alan Grant.
