Urtasun and his Palestinian counterpart inaugurate the Ministerial Conference for Palestine this Wednesday at the Prado Museum

The Minister of Culture, Ernest Urtasunand his Palestinian counterpart Imad Hamdan They open this Wednesday the Ministerial Conference for Palestinian Culture at the Prado Museuma meeting in which ministerial delegations from more than 30 countries will participate to address cultural protection and recovery in Palestine.

Specifically, the attendance of Ministers of Culture from Egypt, Algeria, Poland and Luxembourg is planned, as well as representatives from Libya and Tunisia and the Secretaries of State from France, Portugal and Uruguay.

This Ministerial Conference in Madrid follows the path of other similar meetings such as those held in Vilnius (Lithuania) in 2024, in Uzhgorod (Ukraine) in 2025 or Lviv (Ukraine) in 2026. These meetings have aimed to generate an international space to define priorities, financing mechanisms and concrete actions aimed at cultural recovery in Ukraine.

This Ministerial Conference is expected to culminate with a Final Declaration, a call to action that outlines priorities, cooperation models and specific commitments agreed upon during the meeting.

“The idea is to create an alliance for the reconstruction of Palestine, join forces and make a map of what has happened there.and that new possibilities arise to finance reconstruction projects, as we already did in Ukraine. We hope that concrete instruments will emerge to support Palestinian culture, both political and economic,” said Urtasun last Thursday when he announced this initiative, organized by Spain and Palestine.

The Ministerial Conference will start this Thursday at the Reina Sofía Museum, which will begin with a photo in front of Picasso’s ‘Guernica’.
