The deal between Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery is moving forward, the California Department of Justice is investigating

Warner said on Thursday that the overwhelming majority of its shareholders have given their support to sell the company at a price of $31 per share.

The big deal, which will revolutionize the media field when it comes to fruition, was agreed at the end of February at a price of approximately 111 billion dollars, or 93 billion euros.

The trade has attracted a lot of attention in the United States, because the giants of both social and traditional media are already largely owned by a few, the president Donald Trump owned by supportive billionaires.

A techno billionaire by Larry Ellison of a boy by David Ellison Skydance bought Paramount in 2024 and, in addition to Paramount Pictures, known for its films, took over, among other things, the news channel CBS News. Warner’s holdings include, among others, the TV channel CNN, which is one of the many media players who have been in the grip of President Trump for years and the target of pressure attempts.

“The merger between Paramount and Warner Bros. is a competition law nightmare that will result in a handful of Trump-connected billionaires controlling a huge part of the media,” Senator Elizabeth Warren comment in X.

Warren, who aspired to become the Democratic presidential candidate in 2020, is now pinning his hopes on state attorney generals and potential lawsuits.

“The fight is not over.”

Attorney General of California Rob Bonta told MeidasTouch that the matter is being investigated. He said there are many alarming aspects of the deal, including concerns about higher consumer prices, lower wages for workers and less competition in the streaming and cinema markets.
