Le Pen announces race for Elysée 2027: "I will apply". Sentenced to 15 months of disqualification

Marine Le Pen announces her candidacy to the elections presidential elections in France in 2027. “Given that I have the possibility of appealing to the Court of Cassation, which was not necessarily foreseen in other cases, and given that the appeal to the Court of Cassation suspends the effects of the sentence, I will campaign without an electronic bracelet”, declared the leader of the Rassemblement National to Tf1.

Condannata at 45 months of interdiction come on public officesof which 30 are on parole, can theoretically run for President of the Republic in 2027. The Court of Appeal of Paris he also sentenced her to one year of house arrest with an electronic bracelet. The far-right leader had made her candidacy conditional on not being condemned to wear an electronic bracelet.

“The facts are serious” despite “the absence of personal enrichment”, commented the president of the Paris Court of Appeal, Michele Agi, pronouncing the appeal sentence for Le Pen in the case of the European parliamentary assistants of the Front National.

The ineligibility penalty

Le Pen has served her ineligibility sentence and is legal eligible to run in the presidential elections of spring next year. The leader of the French far right was sentenced on appeal to a period of ineligibility of 45 months, 30 of which were suspended. The court finds that she has already served 15 months of the ineligibility period starting from March 31, 2025. She is therefore eligible and can legally run for president.

The lawyer: “Considerable change”

After reading the appeal sentence, Le Pen left the Palace of Justice in Paris surrounded by her entourage, without making any statements to the press. The RN leader’s lawyer announces that he is evaluating “possible next steps” following the Court of Justice’s decision.
Leaving the courtroom, Rodolphe Bosselut remarked “un considerable changein particular the ineligibility penalty”, calling it “an extremely important point”. “We are now evaluating the entire decision. We will reflect on this this afternoon and issue a statement later regarding possible next steps,” he added.

Macron does not comment

“What is healthy for democracy is that the president does not comment on judicial decisions,” said Emmanuel Macron when asked about Le Pen’s conviction on the sidelines of a press conference in Syria.
