FIFA makes radical changes to the World Cup final and breaks its own regulations

The show will last 11 minutes and will feature Madonna, Shakira, BTS, Justin Bieber, Burna Boy, Coldplay, Gustavo Dudamel and PS22 Chorus, as well as the Muppets, in performances similar to the Super Bowl. Furthermore, the longer break time will include the assembly and disassembly of structures.

The 30-minute break, however, goes against the entity’s own regulations. According to article 36.1 of the International Football Association Board (Ifab), all games must be played in accordance with its rules. Article 36.5 says that players have a 15-minute rest interval between halves. Finally, Law 7, Ifab determines that the break cannot exceed 15 minutes.

FIFA has not yet officially confirmed the change and has not provided any explanations. The entity itself, it is worth remembering, has already made this type of change during the break. In 2025, the Club World Cup final lasted 25 minutes due to the musical performances.

The 2026 World Cup final already has Spain confirmed, after the team eliminated France. In the other semi-final, which takes place this Tuesday (15th), at 4pm, England and Argentina face off in search of a place.
