Assassin’s Creed Black Flag remake is breaking records despite mixed reactions from fans

The new-old hit from Ubisoft, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, launched and immediately broke all records of the franchise on Steam. Although it is a remake of a game that is more than ten years old, the pirate adventure attracted an incredible number of players, selling two million copies on the first day.

Figures that exceeded all expectations

Već in the first hours after its release, the number of simultaneous games on Steam reached 99,451, and within three days it rose to 104,756. This made Black Flag Resynced the first game in the series to exceed one hundred thousand simultaneous users on that platform. For comparison, the previous record holder, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, stopped at 64,825 games, while favorites like Odyssey and Origins had lower peaks. The original Black Flag from 2013 was surpassed more than six times, which testified to the power of nostalgia.

Success in the shadow of criticism

However, impressive sales figures and record-breaking interest tell only one side of the story. The game’s launch was followed by an avalanche of negative reviews on Steam, where it initially had a “mostly negative” rating. The main objections of the game are focused on aggressive monetization. Many pointed out that numerous DLC packs, which include cosmetic additions and ship content at a price of 10 euros each, were not even included in the more expensive Deluxe edition of the game. The total price of all add-ons exceeded the price of the game itself, which caused great dissatisfaction.

Technical problems and positive sides

Additional frustration was caused by a technical glitch that caused all intermediate scenes to be locked at 30 frames per second (FPS), even on the most powerful computers with “Ultra High” settings. Ubisoft acknowledged the problem and promised a fix soon. On the other hand, critics and gamers praised the significant improvements. IGN gave the game a score of nine out of ten, including a refined combat system, improved graphics and, to the delight of many, the removal of segments from the present. However, the power of Edward’s charisma and the freedom of sailing in the Caribbean were enough to overcome the problems and attract millions of players.
