7th night of confrontation between the USA and Iran: strikes on targets in the north, south and west of the country

On the night of Thursday, July 16, the US armed forces carried out another series of attacks on targets in different parts of Iran. US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the wave of attacks ended at 4:00 am Israeli time.

According to CENTCOM, US forces attacked command posts, air defense facilities, missile and unmanned systems, and coastal surveillance assets. The strikes involved precision-guided munitions targeting targets in several areas, including Bandar Abbas, in southern Iran. The purpose of the operation was called by the command to further reduce Iran’s ability to threaten the crews of merchant ships traveling through the Strait of Hormuz.

Earlier, the US military carried out an hour and a half series of attacks on coastal defense facilities and cruise missile positions on the Great Tunb Island (Tunb al-Kubra) in the Persian Gulf.

CENTCOM said the operation was carried out on the orders of the US President and is designed to “bring Iran to justice.”

Iranian state television channel Press TV reported attacks on the airport in the northern city of Semnan. At least two explosions were heard in the city of Khondab in Markazi province, located in western Iran. Information about the affected objects, casualties and destruction has not yet been received.

Air defense systems were activated in some areas of Tehran. Iranian media also reported explosions and air defense operations in other parts of the country. There is no independent confirmation of the results of the American strikes yet.

Kan reports that the US military attacked an airport near Tehran.

Press TV claims that six missiles flying towards Iran through Iraqi airspace were launched from Kuwait. Kuwaiti authorities did not comment on this statement.

The IRGC said that a combined strike was carried out on the C-RAM radar station at the Ali al-Salem airbase in Kuwait and the area where American troops were stationed. The IRGC did not provide evidence of the defeat of these targets or data on casualties.

The Kuwait Army General Staff said air defense forces repelled an attack by “enemy drones.” According to incoming reports, explosions associated with the operation of interception systems were heard over the territory of the emirate.

In Bahrain, air raid sirens sounded twice within several hours. The Ministry of Internal Affairs urged residents to remain calm and proceed to the nearest safe places. Information about missile or drone crashes and damage caused was not available at the time of publication.

The IRGC claims the defeat of the Patriot air defense system at a base in Bahrain. The information is not confirmed by independent sources and the US military.

The current wave of strikes is a continuation of the US operation against Iranian missile, drone and coastal forces in the Strait of Hormuz. This time, judging by reports from Iranian sources, attacks were carried out not only on targets in the south of the Islamic Republic, but also in the north and west of the country.
