Refused doping test: Nada is investigating Ansah

Refusal to take a doping test is generally a serious violation of the anti-doping guidelines and can be treated in the same way as a positive doping test. The rules generally prescribe a ban of four years in these cases – unless an athlete proves that he did not intentionally refuse control or can claim “extraordinary circumstances”. In the first case he would be banned for two years, in the latter the ban could last between two and four years.

This happened, for example, to a track and field athlete who, after retiring from her career, forgot to deregister from the so-called NADA test pool, in which all athletes who have to be available for unannounced doping tests are noted. For a while now, athletes have been able to obtain significantly shorter suspensions using so-called “case resolution management”. To do this, however, they must, among other things, play a significant role in clarification.

Two years ago in Braunschweig, Ansah was the first German sprinter to break the ten second sound barrier with legal wind support. On Friday last week, the 25-year-old ran another top time in fourth place at the Diamond League meeting in Monte Carlo in 10.01 seconds, with which he confirmed his performance from the new record run on June 6th in Regensburg. The victory went to world champion Oblique Seville from Jamaica (9.88).

The experience in Monte Carlo was “unbelievable,” the sprinter said on the ARD microphone at the time. In general, his season up to that point had been surprisingly fast, Ansah had already admitted that himself after his record run in Regensburg: “The fact that I managed to do that in the second race of the season is a surprise for me,” he said at the time. “The big goal” this year is the European Championships in Birmingham (August 10th to 16th). In the European annual best list, Ansah, who competes for Hamburger SV, is currently in second place behind Marcell Jacobs (Italy/9.96), the 2021 Olympic champion. The 4×100 meter sprint relay with Ansah was also considered a contender for a European Championship medal until recently.

The German championships are on the program in Bochum-Wattenscheid on July 25th and 26th. The events surrounding the fastest German sprinter are likely to overshadow the weekend.
