Positive effects on intestinal health of aspirin and the pesco-vegetarian diet

The research, conducted on genetically predisposed animal models, confirms that the diet based on fish and products of plant origin decreases the formation of tumor lesions, enhancing the beneficial effects when integrated with anti-inflammatory pharmacological treatment. The microbiological analysis highlighted that the combination of diet and drug selects specific bacterial groups, including the Roseburia genus, known for the production of butyrate, a substance essential for the well-being of the intestinal mucosa and the control of inflammation.

“Our results confirm that the intestinal microbiota represents a fundamental meeting point between nutrition and health“, explains Carlotta De Filippo, Cnr-Ibba researcher who coordinated the study. “Understanding how diet, drugs and microbiota interact with each other will allow us to develop increasingly effective and personalized prevention strategies in the future, especially for people at greater risk of developing this disease“.».
