The gaming community calls for a strike against PlayStation with a seven-day blackout

The PlayStation gaming community does not agree with the decisions that Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has made in recent years and the withdrawal of physical games has worn out their patience, leading to a seven-day shutdown strike in August.

DoesItPlay?, a community focused on game preservation, has called on the gaming community to hold a week-long “economic and gaming” blackout in protest of SIE’s decision to eliminate physical video games in 2028.

They believe that this is just the latest in a series of decisions that SIE has made in recent years that have caused it to “become increasingly distanced from its fan base”, and that include the closure of studios such as Bluepoint, a live service strategy that they do not share, the cancellation of fan events and the abandonment of PlayStation VR2.

“PlayStation has never felt more disconnected from its community,” they say. For this reason, they have called for a huela in August, which will begin on the 23rd at 7:00 p.m. (local time) and will end on the 30th, also at 7:00 p.m.

It is about showing SIE the discontent with a blackout, that is, seven days “without logins, without game sessions, without purchases on any of the Sony platforms”, and that only requires that players turn off their consoles or log out in that time.

“We believe this period minimizes the impact on publishers and developers, while allowing players to express their opinion,” they added.

In mid-July, the European Union ruled on Sony’s decision, stating that it cannot intervene because companies “are free to offer games and services in the way they consider appropriate,” as long as consumer rights are protected.
