Giorgetti: "17 cent discount only on diesel until August 6th"

“The measure provides a discount only on diesel for an equivalent value between excise duty and VAT of 17 cents until August 6th. Naturally, a Council of Ministers is already scheduled for August 4th which will evaluate the evolution of the situation by monitoring the international situation and prices to see what to do after August 6th. The contribution in favor of hauliers was also updated and extended until July. And obviously there is a tax credit for agriculture. Overall the cost of the operation is around 125 million euros”. “We have not intervened on excise duties on tobacco. We will monitor the trend of prices on a daily basis as they evolve based on conflict situations. It is clear that the situation evolves day by day. Today, for example, the price of Brent is falling, the hope is that in a few days this will also translate into a decrease in the price at the pump”, added Giorgetti.

Tax reduction? Budget cycle starts in September

“I would also like to do many other things. The budget cycle begins in September, we will have to make the best use of what will be the possibility, if Parliament gives us a mandate, of the national derogation clause from the Stability Pact. Next week we will go to the Chamber to ask Parliament to give us a mandate to proceed in Europe”, said Giorgetti, when asked about the words of Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani who spoke about the objective of reducing the tax burden. “This will open up significant spaces in terms of deviation – added Giorgetti – but precisely because it is a deviation they must be used in a very intelligent and targeted way. The discussion is open, the government will try to do the best things in a complicated context”.
