By order of the Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan, David Gevorgyan was appointed the manager of the Araratcement factory.
A member of the Civil Contract party, Gevorgyan was appointed Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Development of the Republic of Armenia on June 8, 2018, was the governor of Aragatsotn region from 2018 to 2021, and was appointed Assistant to the Prime Minister in November 2022.
In mid-July, it became known that the management of the Araratcement factory, owned by the leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party, businessman Gagik Tsarukyan, had been transferred to the state. According to the prosecutor’s office, the Anti-Corruption Committee made such a decision within the framework of the proceedings on the confiscation of property of illegal origin.
The possible nationalization of Araratcement was perhaps one of the main theses of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during the pre-election period. While Gagik Tsarukyan was campaigning, announcing his intention to achieve a change of power, Prime Minister Pashinyan directly threatened that Tsarukyan would be deprived of his freedom and his abilities.
Gagik Tsarukyan has been under arrest since July 7, and major companies belonging to his family have been frozen.
One of the largest assets owned by the PAP leader, Ararat Cement, was also among those companies, although the government intervened and decided to resume operations at the factory.
