The administration of US President Donald Trump has imposed an import ban on the import of humanoid robots, robot dogs, robot vacuum cleaners and new power inverters made outside the United States, arguing that it is an “unacceptable” threat to national security.
“Devices made overseas could be remotely controlled or used by foreign governments for surveillance or otherwise used in cyberattacks,” the FCC said.
The commission added that exceptions will be granted if the administration determines that a particular device does not pose a threat to US national security.
China’s Ministry of Commerce called on the US to reverse this decision and threatened retaliatory steps if this does not happen.
