Augusto Mafuz: Paraná returning to the Olympic Village. And what about Vila Capanema?

Not once or twice did Pedro Weber, CEO of NextPlay, who received the club’s SAF almost free of charge, say: “Vila Olímpica is the home of Paraná”.

Now, it was the Czech coach who, naively, assuming the role of the boss’s announcer, said: “It’s everyone’s desire, at some point, to play in the Olympic Village”.

In the contract that grants control of 90% of SAF’s shareholding rights, there is no impediment for NextPlay to carry out the alienation — sale, mortgage or fiduciary alienation — of the club’s assets. As there is no exception among these assets, the alienation of rights over Vila Capanema is authorized.

Not long ago, some clubs that have possession of Union properties and are discussing the domain title, such as Paraná, received the following proposal: they would pay a monthly amount for the use of the property and would have the right of preference to purchase it. That’s what Santos did with the property that he now gave as collateral to Neymar for the R$100 million debt.

Under the proposal, the club would have the right to acquire the property title for approximately R$65 million. Paraná did not sign because it was unable to pay the monthly fee of approximately R$200,000. A recent evaluation concluded that the market price of the property reaches R$210 million.

Considering that: (a) NextPlay was honest with the Councils of Paraná when informing that the money to be invested will have to be taken in the financial market through the sale of the club’s assets; and (b) the ownership rights to the Durival Britto e Silva Stadium property can be sold, will the future of Vila Capanema be without the ball rolling?

So, what will be the affective memory of those who saw Régis’ saves, Ricardinho’s shots and Saulo’s historic goals?
