One of Apple’s most popular laptop models, the MacBook Air, is experiencing a massive stock shortage in both physical and online stores, with delays of around a month.

The tech sector is facing a memory chip shortage that is affecting multiple companies, including Apple, which already announced a price increase for its Mac and iPad devices in June as a result of the rising cost of memory.

In this regard, Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman shared in his ‘Power On’ newsletter the current situation facing Apple with its MacBook Air, which is experiencing an unprecedented level of shortages for a laptop launched in March of this year.

According to retail sources cited by Gurman, Apple is trying to maintain stock of the laptop, at a time when shipments of new units are more limited than the company has reported.

In fact, according to Apple’s MacBook Air website, new orders for all configurations won’t ship until the end of August, while orders with different combinations of screen size, color, and memory options will be delayed until early September.

Gurman explains that the shortage is mainly due to the global RAM and storage crisis currently affecting the tech industry, which Apple intends to address with several measures.

The first of these is securing the necessary memory supply from Chinese vendors for devices sold in that country, in addition to the $200 price increase across the entire product line.

Another of Apple’s strategies is to focus sales on the base 14-inch MacBook Pro model, partly because this paves the way for a refresh with the M6 ​​chip, expected this fall, according to the analyst.

In fact, and as a demonstration of the stock problems, the back-to-school promotion that students usually take advantage of in June was delayed that same month due to a shortage of memory.
