The Iranian government emphasized on Monday that the defense agreement ratified a few days ago by Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey demonstrates that the countries of the region have concluded they cannot rely on the United States’ “promises” for their security.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei welcomed the fact that these three countries had developed an “alternative” agreement based on their own capabilities and experiences, “regardless of the destructive interventions of third parties,” according to the ISNA news agency.
In this regard, he explained that the perception of security that the United States claims to provide has actually had the opposite effect. He stressed that any plan must be comprehensive and consider the historical and geopolitical realities of the region, as well as “correctly identifying the enemy.”
He also dismissed the notion that the agreement poses any threat to his country’s security. “We have deep religious, historical, and civilizational ties with Turkey, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia, and there is no reason to fear that this agreement will be detrimental to Iran,” he stated.
ISRAEL’S REJECTION OF THE GAZA PEACE PLAN
Baqaei also addressed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s rejection of the Gaza peace plan proposed by US President Donald Trump, recalling that Tehran had always questioned whether the “Zionist regime” had a genuine interest in ending the attacks.
“It is up to the US president to respond,” the spokesman said, adding that Washington “must be held accountable” for the support it has provided to the “Israeli regime” throughout this conflict.
“We already stated at the time that the Israeli regime was not bound by any treaty or promise and that it should not be trusted,” he noted.
