Ikea and Xbox together for gaming with the Yxstaby line

The starting point is a market fact: gaming today involves over three billion people in the world and has progressively moved from the dedicated living room to environments shared with other daily activities, from the kitchen to the bedroom. Yxstaby tries to respond to this change with furniture that allows you to quickly set up a gaming station and close it just as quickly, without leaving cables and controllers in sight.

Among the pieces in the collection is the first TV stand made by Ikea, equipped with wheels to move it between rooms and a rear compartment for storing gaming equipment. For those who don’t have dedicated space, a laptop stand transforms any table into a temporary workstation in just a few seconds, thanks to a container for cables and controllers whose lid also acts as a computer stand. The range is completed by a table on wheels with a shelf for controllers and a charging compartment hidden behind sliding doors, as well as a stand that raises one or two monitors to the correct height, with slots for phone and headphones.

The design of the collection explicitly recalls the aesthetics of the Xbox controller, reinterpreted in a furnishing key: the D-pad inspires both a cushion and a decorative steel plate, while a display with mirrors highlights the collectible figurines by reflecting them from all sides. The most original piece, however, is the stool modeled on the controller thumbstick, developed from the original 3D design files.

On a chromatic level, the collection favors neutral tones – white, black and beige – in line with Scandinavian aesthetics, reserving green for functional pockets and compartments intended for organizing cables and accessories. According to Carl Ledbetter, head of Xbox design, the collaboration has made it possible to rethink gaming not only as a function of the screen, but of the entire domestic space that surrounds it. Yxstaby will arrive in Ikea stores and online starting next autumn.
