More than 100 technology companies call for a collective response to ensure global cybersecurity with AI

OpenAI, IBM, Google, CrowdStrike, Cloudflare and Check Point, along with dozens of technology and cybersecurity companies, have endorsed an open letter calling for improved defenses against the threat posed by attacks powered by artificial intelligence.

AI cybersecurity capabilities are a double-edged sword: on the one hand, they are helping to identify and correct existing gaps in the code of the systems of important companies in the industry, in many cases unknown to human teams, in addition to reinforcing detection, blocking and mitigation measures against attacks.

On the other hand, these same capabilities are used to automate, perfect and accelerate attacks, and with the leap to agentic AI, it is AI itself that puts systems at risk with autonomous action that has already been seen in the case of OpenAI and Hugging Face.

Precisely, given the threat that AI-driven attacks pose to society in general, more than one hundred companies, including OpenIA, IBM, Google, CrowdStrike, Cloudflare, Xbox, AWS, Cisco, Dell, NTT DATA and Check Point, have called on “all organizations, cybersecurity companies, technology partners, governments and leading AI companies”, to reduce the risk now while there is still time.

The goal is to provide a collective response that allows “accelerating defenders’ priorities with tools, funding and practical support, especially for critical infrastructure organizations with limited budgets.”

To this end, they understand that it is “fundamental” to recognize that security as it was understood until now has become obsolete, and that systems, especially critical ones, cannot afford “persistent errors, excessive permissions, incorrect configurations, insecure and unpatched software, weak authentication and technical debt in legacy systems.”

They also consider that the role of AI for defense is key, since this technology “makes essential security tasks faster, cheaper and more effective”, but they emphasize the need to share “tools, practical knowledge and verified solutions” so that many more organizations can benefit from protection.

And, as “cyber capabilities are advancing globally”, “a global response” is required, with new alliances that contribute to “raising security standards and finding new solutions to emerging cyber threats.”

“Let’s fix the most dangerous vulnerabilities, verify the solutions and share the ones that work so that others can take advantage of them. Together, we can turn current advances in AI into lasting improvements in security that benefit everyone,” they conclude in the open letter.
