La Jornada: Presidency predicts economic improvement in the second half

Despite the impact of the imposition of tariffs on one of Mexico’s main export products to the United States – automobiles – “we are doing well” in the economy, considered President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. “That is why we want to reach an agreement with the United States, which we have been promoting for some time, in order to guarantee the production of vehicles in Mexico for the domestic market and for export.”

During her conference, the president commented that US trade policy has had effects in most countries in the world, and that includes US companies based in Mexico or automotive companies in Germany, Japan or South Korea because the economy is very connected.

In his analysis of the national economic behavior, he confirmed his projections that in the second half of this year, the economy will improve, due to the fact that public investments will be reflected in the construction of works and in mixed investments with private initiative.

Sheinbaum highlighted that, in parallel, the implementation of Plan Mexico will be noted, whose main objective is to encourage the internal market and national production in various areas of the economy. The above, in line with the expansion of public investment in infrastructure works through different financing mechanisms.

In addition to seeking to “facilitate private investment in Mexico through welfare centers and other incentives. I said that the second half of this year will be better than the first and I am sure it will be because many public works are being developed (…) We are doing well, I am very optimistic with (the development of) the economy, with the improvement in the quality of life of Mexicans,” said the head of the federal Executive.
