iRobot presents Roomba Duo: a team with two specialized robots that coordinate to clean every corner

iRobot has presented Roomba Duo, the brand’s first robot vacuum cleaner and floor mop composed of two specialized units that coordinate in real time and share a map of the home so that cleaning reaches every corner.

The Roomba Duo solves a dilemma that has existed for years in robotic cleaning: Wet-dry vacuums offered powerful cleaning but lacked autonomous navigation, while robot vacuums provided hands-off convenience but without the cleaning power of a wet-dry vacuum.

As the company showed at the IFA 2026 fair in Berlin, Roomba Duo combines an advanced main robot that vacuums and mops with steam with an ultra-compact complementary robot. Both are part of the same unit; The main robot also houses the complementary one, which lowers and releases with mobile arms.

Both use a shared map and autonomous mobile base; The two robots communicate in real time, using AI to coordinate their cleaning tasks, which they divide according to their specialty: the main unit vacuums and thoroughly scrubs large, open areas, while its compact companion reaches under furniture and works in tight spaces.

DRY AND WET CLEANING

The main unit features a cylindrical design body that houses a wet and dry floor washing module, a high-performance motor and a large-capacity battery. It features a 60mm diameter PowerSpin Max scrub roller, which applies 46N (approximately 4.7kg) of downward pressure to scrub the floor as effectively as cleaning by hand.

For dry waste, the power of this robot effortlessly lifts pet hair, food crumbs and everyday dirt. As a pre-treatment, it distributes steam over selected areas to help loosen stubborn dirt, before being passed over by a self-cleaning roller and hot air drying component.

CLEANING UNDER FURNITURE AND IN NARROW CORNERS

The companion robot uses the Roomba Plus 575 Combo. At 8.35cm high and 29.8cm wide, it slides between dining room chairs and cleans under low beds, sofas and TV cabinets, capturing dust in spaces where most robot vacuums can’t enter. The PerfectEdge mop extends outwards up to 31mm, along with the extendable side edge brush, and automatically cleans corners, walls and baseboards. It has omnidirectional air-lift wheels and exceeds thresholds of up to 3.5 mm.

NAVIGATION AND MAINTENANCE WITH GREATER AUTONOMY

Both units are equipped with dual-line ClearView Pro LiDAR and PrecisionVision AI to detect and avoid common household objects. Additionally, the main unit incorporates AI cameras on top that capture a broader view of rooms, furniture and floor layouts.

17cm wheels powered by integrated motors provide greater stability to the main robot as it moves between different spaces, while the shared AutoWash base handles autonomous maintenance in a single location.
