Denmark and migrants, starting from 2027 repatriation hubs in third countries

Denmark plans to transfer the foreign citizensthose without the right of residence in repatriation centers outside the EU by end of 2027. “On the Danish side, we expect to be ready to transfer the first foreigners to a partner country by the end of next year”, reads a note from the Danish Minister for Immigration, Morten Bodskov.

Repatriation hubs in third countries

Immigration ministers will meet today in Copenhagen Germany, the Netherlands, Austria and Greece to discuss the creation of return centers outside the European Union. “We have come a long way in creating a reception center outside the EU and now we are closer than ever to this goal”we read again in the note.

A more effective asylum system

“This is a milestone on the road to an asylum and migration system more efficient. Because we will not accept that foreigners without a residence permit in Denmark are rewarded by making their expulsion difficult”, specifies the Danish minister in the statement.

The end of a long and dangerous journey for migrants

“It is unsustainable that migrants with no prospects of legal residency pay large sums to human traffickers to reach Europe. Processing their paperwork entails huge costs for EU countries, when a large percentage of them are not granted residency anyway. Furthermore, it is a long journey e dangerous for migrants. We must put an end to all this, and exit centers play a fundamental role in this sense, because they send a strong signal: migrants do not benefit from the journey to Europe”, concludes the text.
