Associate Professor Tran Trung Tinh holds the position of Deputy Minister of Science and Technology

On September 4, Associate Professor Tran Trung Tinh, Director of Can Tho University, was mobilized and appointed by the Prime Minister to hold the position of Deputy Minister of Science and Technology.

Mr. Tran Trung Tinh is 53 years old, from Tay Ninh, and has a doctorate in Electrical Engineering. He graduated from Can Tho University in 1997, then studied in the Netherlands; received a master’s degree in 2004 and a doctorate in 2007 at Gyeongsang National University, Korea.

In 2013, he was recognized as meeting the qualifications for the title of associate professor in Electrical Engineering. His expertise is in electrical engineering, power system planning and operation, including grid optimization and renewable energy problems.

He began teaching at the Faculty of Technology, Can Tho University, in 1998. After that, he successively served as Head of the Electrical Engineering Department, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Technology and Vice Principal of Can Tho University.

During his 11 years as Vice Principal, from July 2012 to November 2023, he also participated in managing the project to upgrade Can Tho University using loans from the Japanese Government. The project focuses on developing human resources, research capacity and technical infrastructure, serving the fields of agriculture, fisheries and environment in the Mekong Delta.

He will be the Principal of Can Tho University from December 2023 to May 2026. When the school switched to a university model, he was appointed Director of Can Tho University from May 25, 2026.

The Ministry of Science and Technology is a Government agency, managing a chain of activities from scientific research, technology development and innovation to intellectual property, standards – measurement – quality. The Ministry is also in charge of digital infrastructure, including postal, telecommunications, radio frequency, digital technology industry, artificial intelligence and national digital transformation.

The current Minister of Science and Technology is Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Hai Quan. The 5 Deputy Ministers include Mr. Bui Hoang Phuong, Le Xuan Dinh, Pham Duc Long, Hoang Minh and Tran Trung Tinh.
