The protest united the left and the right: ‘We want to show unity’

– We are getting so much support that it scares me to think how many people will come. I hope that it will be one of the biggest protests because this is a topic that concerns all of us – said Vjekoslav Buši.

The initiative called on the protesters to show dignity and pride in order to show unity. The Zagreb police have announced that, in accordance with the law, they will audio-visually record the meeting place, as well as the route of movement and approach directions. More than 300 public figures, organizations and civil initiatives united in support of the initiative and the protest.

Between the signatories are many well-known names from the world of music, film, theater, literature… Representatives from Most, Možemo!, SDP and the Center, the Drito party and DOSiP have announced their arrival at the protest. Nikola Grmoja (Most) announced that the defenders of Our Lady gave support, that Catholic initiatives, fans, workers, intellectuals, HOS members who defended Vukovar… They also have support from the president of the state, Zoran Milanovic, who said that the citizens have the right to demand answers from the competent institutions. as he said, they have not received it until today. Support is strong from many people from public life, from actors to singers. Prime Minister Andrej Plenković he previously said that he was in Italy and that he would not come to the protest, nor would the ministers.

– We deal with solving problems, not protesting – he said at the beginning of the week.

The government claims that it is working on the remediation of illegally disposed waste and that tests so far show that the water from the public water supply system is safe. The gathering is at 11 a.m. at King Tomislav Square, from where the procession will head towards Ban Josip Jela Square, where the central part of the protest will take place at noon.

Organizers protest demands immediate and complete rehabilitation of destroyed locations, determination of responsibility for waste disposal and determination of clear deadlines for its removal. They warn that waste poses a threat to the health of citizens and the ecosystem of Lika, and they say that they want to draw the attention of the public and institutions to what they say is a serious problem that requires an urgent solution. 
