Mr. Trump: Europe must repay US aid to Ukraine

“Hundreds of billions of dollars have been given to Ukraine and NATO. Europe should have paid these amounts if they were asked. Although a bit late, we will reclaim this money,” US President Donald Trump wrote on the social network Truth Social on September 3.

Mr. Trump did not specify which countries would have to bear this payment.

President Trump said on August 6 that Mr. Biden had provided Ukraine with “$300 billion worth of ammunition.”

It is unclear where the “300 billion USD” figure that Mr. Trump gave comes from. Previously, he announced that Mr. Biden had sent aid worth $500 billion to Ukraine, while Mr. Zelensky said the total amount was only about $100 billion.

Europe significantly increased aid allocations to Ukraine earlier this year, but the continent still depends heavily on weapons from the US to maintain military aid to Kiev, according to the Kiel Institute for the World Economy in Germany.

Also in a post on September 3, President Trump denied accusations that the US military is running out of ammunition in the campaign against Iran.

“We have an almost endless supply of mid- to high-quality ammunition,” he said, emphasizing that ammunition is being produced at “a level never before seen in history.”

He said Washington was increasing its stockpiles and preparing for contingencies, and had temporarily halted arms sales abroad.

“We are keeping our arsenal for ourselves instead of selling it to others, but sales to allies will resume soon,” he added.
