Metro Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien needs an average annual profit of 27 billion VND

Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee assigned the Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien metro operating company a total profit target of 133 billion VND in the period 2026-2030, or an average of 27 billion VND per year.

Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee is the State representative unit that owns 100% of the capital of Urban Railway Company No. 1 (HURC), the enterprise that operates the city’s first metro line.

In the decision to assign tasks for the next 5 years, the managing unit requires the company to do business effectively, preserve and develop state capital. The revenue growth target of this unit needs to reach 10% per year. Specifically, in total from now until 2030, HURC must reach nearly 3,760 billion VND, or an average of 750 billion VND per year. In the last year of the period alone, this unit must reach the revenue milestone of 900 billion VND.

HURC’s revenue mainly comes from subsidies, calculated based on the distance operated and the unit price (per km) agreed between the company and the Ho Chi Minh City Public Transport Center. The remaining revenue is from selling tickets to passengers and maintaining infrastructure.

The city also set a goal for businesses to increase pre-tax profits each year, from nearly 22 billion VND this year to nearly 32 billion VND by 2030. Accumulated pre-tax profits for the whole period are 133 billion VND.

HURC currently operates the Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien Metro line with a total length of nearly 20 km, connecting the city center to the eastern gateway. This is the first urban railway project in Ho Chi Minh City, with a total investment of more than 43,700 billion VND, completed after 12 years of construction. The line has 14 stations, of which 3 underground stations are in the central area of ​​Ho Chi Minh City.

Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee expects the company to complete and exceed assigned targets in terms of passenger output and train operations in the coming years. At the same time, promote the public transportation system and form the habit of using public transportation for city residents.

In the long term, Ho Chi Minh City expects that by 2030, urban railways in the city will take on 20-30% of people’s travel needs, increasing to 35-50% by 2035 and reaching 50-60% by 2045.
