The board of the Kennedy Center in Washington has voted to close it due to financial problems and the dispute over the attribution of Donald Trump’s name to the center. A federal judge had blocked the attempt by the board of the performing arts center to name the building in which it is based, on the banks of the Potomac, the President’s name, denouncing its illegality.
Trump then announced that the Kennedy Center would close immediately. The US president said the board had voted “almost unanimously” to close the center for urgent renovations and would not reopen until a higher court upholds the name change.
