A phenomenon is brewing in Sweden, which may affect the Finns

Sweden is under discussion more than 10 gigawatts of data centers, and their realization can have effects that can reach as far as Finland, said Kauppalehti’s Stockholm correspondent Sanna Pekkonen Directly from Kauppalehti Economic morning on Monday.

“If they all came true, it would require Finland [kulutuksen] more electricity”, Pekkonen said.

Until now, Sweden has brought its surplus electricity to Finland. Also in Finland electricity consumption is predicted to grow with the planned data center projects in Finland.

“If in Finland it has been thought that cheap electricity would be coming from northern Sweden, then here in Sweden there are indeed data center projects that are in the same hands,” Pekkonen noted.

The electricity demand of the planned data centers in Sweden would exceed the surplus electricity currently produced by Sweden.

“At the moment, we are benefiting from that in Finland in the form of slightly lower prices,” Pekkonen opened.

He also pointed out that all data center projects planned for Sweden may not be realized at all or on the scale that is currently planned. In addition, large nuclear power projects are also pending in Sweden to increase the supply of electricity.

“But of course there is also the risk that some price pressure will come to Finland as well,” Pekkonen said.
