Preparing the ground for loss? Trump’s Guadalupe campaign is ramping up

A comprehensive analysis conducted by the Washington Post shows that nearly 600 accounts prominent on the American right on social networks, podcasts and online media have since the beginning of the year published more than 7,000 statements questioning the purity of the elections. The leading line this time has shifted from targeting the voting machines to unsubstantiated claims that non-citizen immigrants are included in the voter registers, and that voting by mail encourages fraud on a large scale. According to the data, the frequency of dealing with these issues among Trump and the right has doubled compared to the previous election cycle.

In practice, studies and official tests prove that voting by immigrants without citizenship is an extremely rare phenomenon, as are acts of fraud at postal ballots. In most cases these are negligible numbers that have no effect on the outcome of the elections. However, the rhetoric is seeping through: a Pew poll found that only 45 percent of Republican supporters are confident that non-citizens will be prevented from voting, compared to 90 percent among Democratic supporters.

The fight does not remain on social networks but goes directly to the legal courts. The US Department of Justice under the Trump administration has already filed lawsuits to disqualify tens of thousands of votes, including in California, on the unproven claim that they are non-citizen voters. At the same time, the president refused to rule out sending federal troops or National Guard personnel to the polling stations, and even promised a reward of one million dollars to those who would report frauds that would lead to a conviction.
