Pashinyan: “We tell Azerbaijan that we will not discuss the issue of our Constitution with a foreign entity”

Opposition MP Garnik Davtyan wondered why Azerbaijan’s condition to change the Constitution of Armenia is not qualified as a behavior that disrupts the peace process.

Responding to the question, the Prime Minister also said: – “Sometimes there is an impression that such statements are made to provoke internal political instability, these statements feed the opposition. At the official level, we say that we do not discuss the issue of the Constitution, we are told that we do not raise the issue of the Constitution. We simply, because it is a discussion, inform that we have such a perception on the issue.”

“The adoption of the new Constitution is in our pre-election program, as well as in the Government’s program. In the near future, the text will be published, including, we will start a discussion with the parliament,” the Prime Minister announced from the podium of the National Assembly.

As a precondition for signing the peace treaty, Baku demands to remove the reference to the Declaration of Independence from the preamble of the Constitution of Armenia, in which it sees a territorial claim against Azerbaijan.
