Milei’s ally says that Brazilian justice is not impartial with Flávio

“People decide at the polls and their will is respected. This is the fundamental principle of every democracy. We have deep political differences with Brazil’s new government, but our countries share a history, strategic interests and enormous opportunities for cooperation”, wrote Bullrich, senator for A Liberdade Avança (LLA, in its Spanish acronym), Milei’s party.

“And, regarding Flavio, who had a huge vote, I want to reflect on the quality of democracy. It is important that democracy is not binary: whoever wins governs, and whoever loses goes to jail”, he said.

“The use of a non-impartial justice system as an instrument to eliminate the opposition is a tool of power that can never be the path to democracy”, concluded Bullrich.

Amid reports that the Milei government helped Flávio move to the United States, after minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), determined after Sunday’s election (25) that the senator could not leave Brazil, the Argentine president’s management claimed yesterday that it did not congratulate Lula on his victory because the PT member would not have greeted Milei when he won the 2023 Argentine election.

However, at the time, Lula published a post on X in which he wished “good luck and success to the new government” in the neighboring country.

In that election, Bullrich was a candidate for Casa Rosada for the Republican Proposal party, run by former president Mauricio Macri (2015-2019). After being defeated in the first round, she approached Milei, for whom she was Minister of Security until the end of 2025, and joined the LLA.
