Baseball – Babe Ruth jersey auctioned for .1 million

A jersey of baseball legend Babe Ruth has been sold for a record sum at an online auction. At 24.1 million US dollars (around 21.5 million euros), the New York Yankees jersey set a new record. The previous record was set in 2022, when a baseball trading card of former Yankees star Mickey Mantle changed hands for 12.6 million dollars.

Ruth wore the auctioned jersey in the third game of the 1932 World Series against the Chicago Cubs – he is said to have indicated and hit a home run, which became legendary as a “called shot”. That year, the icon won his last of a total of seven World Series titles in Major League Baseball (MLB). After his career, Ruth is said to have given the jersey to a golf partner. The $10 million mark was exceeded for the first time by a sporting goods item at an auction in 2022, but twice that year. In addition to the Mantle card, a jersey belonging to basketball star Michael Jordan (10.1 million) also brought in such a high sum.
