Russia says it has cut off gas supplies to Latvia and Germany’s Shell Energy – the Latvian gas company no longer even bought Russian gas

Russian gas giant Gazprom has cut off gas supplies to Latvia and Germany Shell Energy Europelle. The matter was reported by Reuters.

Reuters cites Gazpom’s statement, in which the interruption of gas supplies is justified by “violation of the terms of trade”. However, the company does not specify what the conditions are.

Latvian natural gas company Latvian Gaze says in its own announcement, however, that it does not buy any natural gas from Gazprom.

“We buy gas from other suppliers, to whom we pay in euros,” the company’s board chairman Aigars Kalvītis commented in the stock exchange release.

Kalvītis also reminds that Latvia will stop all energy purchases from Russia at the beginning of next year.

Earlier on Saturday, Gazprom demanded guarantees from Western countries to allow future turbine repairs, so that the gas flow of the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline leading to Germany could be raised to a normal level.
