From Wednesday, August 10, a ban on the import of coal from Russia came into force in the European Union.
According to the European Commission, the embargo will affect 25% of all Russian coal exports worth 8 billion euros per year.
According to the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation, coal exports from Russia to the EU countries in 2021 amounted to 48.75 million tons (22.6% of total exports). The vast majority was thermal coal, which is used to generate heat and electricity – 45.3 million tons.
