Energy crisis: Lecornu announces the end of gas boilers in new constructions from 2027

“Learn lessons”. This was the announced objective of Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu, who held a press conference this Friday, from Matignon, on the energy crisis, caused in part by the conflict in the Middle East.

“The government has chosen to manage the crisis without giving in to demagoguery,” the Prime Minister initially claimed. The executive has “already begun to anticipate the necessary transformation of our energy model with the multi-annual energy program,” he continued.

To achieve this, Sébastien Lecornu announced the end of gas boilers in new individual or collective constructions, from January 1, 2027.

“Electrification process”

In addition, the government wants to accelerate “the electrification process”, which would allow France to be less dependent on imported hydrocarbons. Several ministers also met Thursday morning in Matignon to work on this future electrification plan.

Finally, Sébastien Lecornu announced the launch of 50,000 new social leasing files and aid for heavy commuters (craftsmen, liberal nurses, etc.). Aid for electric heavy goods vehicles must also be put in place.

These announcements come as the United States and Iran reached a ceasefire agreement overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday, involving the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
